UMAMI – Worksheets

The following worksheets are a companion to UMAMI, written and drawn by Ken Niimura. They were designed by teacher Pau Nin at Sagrat Cor Sarrià school (@pau_nin on twitter), to his pupils aged 10-11 years old (primary school).

There are two options available: Microsoft Forms worksheets (for which the teacher would need to log in to Outlook and click on “duplicate” at the top of each worksheets) and individual PDF files.

Extra exercise: an ending for UMAMI

As a post script to reading the chapters and their corresponding exercises, we propose a final exercise consisting of drawing a one/two page ending to the comic. The exercise can be introduced along with this presentation about the language of the comic (currently only available in Spanish).

Should they so wish, schools may post the stories drawn on Twitter (ensuring they respect their pupils' privacy) with the hashtag #umamiending, and tagging the author ("ken_niimura" for both Twitter and Instagram). All the proposed endings for Umami will be entered in a draw for an original drawing by the author. More information coming soon from: twitter.com/ken_niimura

Colouring sheets

A further PDF is available here, where you can color in the comic book front covers.

Download chapters

The author would appreciate it if pupils could download the chapters via the Panel Syndicate website. This download has no additional cost for the pupils (they can download them for free by putting “0” in the price box). These direct downloads help give a real idea of web traffic and provide more visibility to the project.

While not asking pupils to pay for the comic, it would be appreciated if the teacher made a contribution.

We hope you find these exercises interesting, and that you enjoy reading the comic.

Regards,

Ken Niimura & Pau Nin
